Bonsai is our very bossy and nosey blue and gold macaw.  Macaws can be found in the wild in South America, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, northern Paraguay, and eastern Peru.  Their life span is around 60-80 years.   Their color imitates their natural habitat of vivid green canopies and colorful fruits and flowers.  There are seventeen species of macaw blue and gold, green wing, the colorful scarlet and the very sought after Hyacinth Macaw to name a few.  Some species of macaw are endangered, due to habitat loss.  Among those are the Hyacinth, red-fronted, and blue-throated macaws.  I never thought I would be a “bird person”, now thanks to Kris and her family I could never think of my family without one.  While all parrots can and will be loud at times, extremely messy, they are also full of personality, comical, extremely intelligent and, and will become attached to their humans.

The Fluffy is our Umbrella Cockatoo.  Cockatoos can be found Indonesia.  They can make extremely good pets, however, they are more demanding and time consuming than most parrots.  They go through toys extremely fast and are very, very loud.  Their age can surpass 80 years.  However, they love attention all of the time and are extremely entertaining.

Petry is our white Capped Pionus.  He has the sweetest temperament of any parrot.  Pionus are not huge talkers but their small size and more quit nature make them good pets.  White capped are among eight of the different species of Pionus.  Pious life span is from 8-25 years but can live over 40.  Why the age difference?  Many things play a fact.  Nonstick skillets, arousals, cleaning products all produce hazardous fumes.  Nutrition must remain healthy as parrots can quickly accumulate fatty deposits around their livers and hearts.  Seed is not a good diet for parrots as a main source of food.  They all need fresh fruits and veggies daily.  We have to remind Petry of this daily as he is a potato chip addict.
